NU-WRF v7 released
NU-WRF version 7 'Arthur' released on January 12, 2015. This version includes WRF 3.5.1, LIS7 and many additional features.
WHAT IS INCLUDED (see CHANGELOG.TXT and User Guide for more details):
- Incorporates WRF/WRF-Chem/WPS 3.5.1, prep_chem_sources 1.3.2, RIP 4.6.5, UPP 2.1, and MET 4.1
- Changed build system to link all programs with netCDF4 with HDF5 compression
- Incorporates updated 3ICE microphysics and new first-generation 4ICE microphysics (the latter w/o wet deposition for GOCART aerosols). Cloud effective radius calculation changed to use simple formula from GCE. Community WRF 3ICE scheme also available.
- Adds new 2014 Goddard radiation scheme (longwave and shortwave). Older 2011 radiation and community WRF schemes also available.
- LIS updated to 7.0rp1 with new libraries. "lisreal" build option removed—LIS specific code changes are now executed at run time.
- Added LDT 7rp1 to reprocess LIS static and dynamic data.
- Updated LISCONFIG utilities to support new LIS and LDT.
- Modified Vtable.LIS to support optional processing of LIS GRIB data.
- Revised erodible soil options (Static, MODIS-Deep Blue, Dynamic-Climatology, and Dynamic); preliminary support for SPoRT MODIS-based CONUS green vegetation fraction product
- Bug fix to restarts involving skin temperature and time-varying sea ice (from DSCALE project)
- Fixed uninitialized variables in WRF Noah LSM
- Added spatial subsetting option to GEOS2WPS, allowing user to specify start and end i,j,k indices of GEOS data to process.
- Added new Python scripts to use GEOS2WRF to process GEOS-5 7-km "Ganymed" Nature Run
- Overhauled processing of GFEDv3.1 biomass burning data by PREP_CHEM_SOURCES
- Improved processing of GOCART background fields by PREP_CHEM_SOURCES
- Upgrade GSDSU to v3.3.3, adds support for 4ICE microphysics, simulating Doppler profiles, other improvements
- Added support for CASA CO2 (treats CO2 as tracer, modifies WRF-Chem dry deposition scheme, adds CASA2WRF and other preprocessors
- Improved WRF diagnostic mean and std dev calculations to use more robust Welford algorithm
- Added precipitable water, liquid water path, ice water path, cloud liquid water path, cloud ice water path, rain water path, and frozen precipitation water path diagnostics.
- Added time-averaged integrated vapor transport vector components. User adjusts time-averaging period using IVT_INTERVAL &time_control namelist option (in minutes).
- Added freezing level height calculation.
- Updated RIP to recognize WRF-Chem output and settings for NU-WRF microphysics, radiation, and LIS
- Upgraded default MPI on PLEAIDES to SGI MPT 2.11r13; dropped support for Intel 12 compilers and MPI
- Added support for MVAPICH2 MPI on DISCOVER; dropped support for GNU compilers and OpenMPI
- Collected latest documentation in /doc directory
- Updated SST2WRF to use latest products from Remote Sensing Systems, and added scripts to automate
- Updated Vtable.GFS to support latest NCEP GFS GRIB2 files
- Updated sample SLURM (PBS) batch scripts for DISCOVER (PLEIADES)
KNOWN BUGS:
- Two-way nesting is disabled for WRF-LIS coupling (WRF land mask changes, LIS mask doesn't)
- WRF changes the terrain field in the lateral boundary zones of each inner nest, LIS/LDT doesn't.
- Convective-stratiform diagnostic from microphysics is sensitive to number of processors used.
- Some crashes noted with very large nested configurations
