NU-WRF Version 7 "Arthur" Patch 4: v7lis7-3.5.1-p4

The fourth stable patch to NU-WRF Version 7 (v7lis7-3.5.1-p4) was released on 1 September 2015.

WHAT CHANGED:

  • Upgraded LDT to 7.1r. This includes:
    1. Fixes to several metforcing readers that process the forcing terrain-height or elevation fields when processing model parameters.
    2. Corrected conserved (budget-bilinear) interp routines. Users may notice slight differences in results.
    3. MetTimeDScale and Metforcproc runmodes.
    4. Crop, CLM2, Flake, Mosaic, Noah, SiB2, and VIC parameters.
    5. TRMM 3B42 V7 real time precipitation.
    6. Aquarius L2, GCOMW AMSR2 L3, and SMOS L2 soil moisture observations.
    7. Simulated GRACE products.
  • Upgraded LIS to 7.1r. This includes:
    1. Noah 3.6, NoahMP 3.6, and CABLE 1.4b LSMs (only Noah 3.6 tested with NUWRF).
    2. Flood and drip irrigation.
    3. VIIRS Daily GVF data
    4. TRMM 3B42 V7 real time precipitation
    5. Gaussian T1534 GFS met forcing data
    6. MERRA-2 met forcing data (data only available to select users).
    7. Downscaling precipitation (PRISM) (NLDAS-2 only)
  • Upgraded LVT to 7.1r. This includes:
    1. Fixed bug affecting output of summary and final metric files.
    2. GCOMW, ASCAT, SMOS, and SMOS L1 Tb observations.
    3. MODIS LST and Great Lakes Hydro data.
    4. Time lagged computations.
  • Upgraded compiler version to Intel 13.1.3.192 (required for LIS 7.1)
  • Upgraded build config files.
  • Updated LIS, LDT, and LVT User Guides.
  • Updated NUWRF User Guide.

WHAT IS MISSING:

  • Updated 4ICE microphysics with aerosol coupling
  • Updated GSDSU

KNOWN BUGS:

  • Grell-Freitas cumulus scheme is sensitive to number of cores used. Behavior is also noted with community WRF 3.5.1 and 3.6.1. NCAR has been notified.
  • WRF changes the terrain field in the lateral boundary zones of each inner nest, LIS/LDT doesn't.
  • Convective-stratiform diagnostic from Goddard 3ICE and 4ICE microphysics is sensitive to number of processors used.
