NU-WRF Version 8 Patch 3 ("Bjerknes Patch 3") Released

NU-WRF Version 8 Patch 3 (v8p3-wrf371-lis71rp7) ("Bjerknes Patch 3") was released on 14 November 2016.

WHAT CHANGED:

  • Added support for ECMWF T511 Nature run files:
    • UNGRIB now supports N256 Reduced Gaussian Grid GRIB files
    • Added Vtable files for N256 data (w/ and w/o SST)
    • Added ecmwf_coeffs_L91 file listing hybrid sigma-pressure coefficients.
    • Added script for CALC_ECMWF_P preprocessor
  • LDT bug fix for compiler warning in ldt/metforcing/cmorph.F90 about external function not given explicit type.
  • LIS bug fixes:
    • Fixes for warning in WRFV3/lis/surfacemodels/land/clm2/csm_share/clm2_shr_sys_mod.F90 about unused argument (related to use of preprocessor flags).
    • Fix for warning in WRFV3/lis/surfacemodels/land/mosaic/umd_sibalb.F90 about function not given explicit type.
  • G-EDAS:  Updated NWP component to NU-WRF Version 8 Patch 3.

KNOWN BUGS:

  • Grell-Freitas cumulus scheme (cu_physics=3) is sensitive to CPU count (inherited from WRF 3.7.1).  No fix.
  • LIS only supports up to 3 grids.
  • CASA2WRF is not using netCDF4/HDF5 compression in output.
  • Intel MPI hangs on Discover for large (> 2000 cpu) jobs.  Use SGI MPT instead for big jobs.
  • Bad TEMF PBL restarts (inherited from WRF 3.7.1).  No fix.
  • Unphysical results if urban physics only used on some grids (inherited from WRF 3.7.1).  Use urban physics on all grids or on none.
